The price and bother of textbooks has been a real bane to many university students. A large amount of people are talking about eTextbooks as a potential answer. Digital textbooks college students now have an option of a bunch of hardware choices which to use including the Apple iPad, Barnes and Noble Nook, Amazon Kindle and Kindle fire, and many tablets running the Android operating system. It's important to realize that the device is only half of the story. You need to also consider the eReader format the textbook is available in and is that the reader available as a download or app your tablet or PC.

CourseSmart has over 90% of the core textbooks in use today in this country Higher Education as downloadable textbooks. CourseSmart has four eTextbook reading apps to choose from. These include applications for the iPhone and iPad and Android as well as a browser-based reader for the Kindle, Nook and laptops. Digital textbooks from CengageBrain also use the CourseSmart reader.

Barnes and Noble carries textbooks in the Nook format. They provide a Nook app to load on your iPad, iPhone, Android, PC and Mac but not the Kindle devices.

Kno is a free app for iPad that may be utilised for reading digital textbooks and taking notes in them. You may use their browser supported reader for PC and MAC computers.

Amazon Kindle reading applications let you read Kindle books on your computer or your mobile device. Kindle readers are available for the PC, Mac, iPad/iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, webOS and the Kindle Cloud Reader.

Alternative sources include Textbooks.com which carry PDF and VitalSource ebooks (Vitalsource ereader programs for PC & MAC). Flat World offers ebooks in formats for multiple readers. It's best to check out their site for a full list.
